Ever since Haiti established independence, the nation has struggled to create a compulsory and free education system. To move forward and improve the Haitian education system, it is necessary for the Haitians to take the forefront in educational reform decisions.

If decisions are made with a Westerns lens, changes will not be sustainable unless local agents have a voice in the matter. Therefore, international and partner organizations need to be cognizant of the necessity of allowing Haitians to lead the discussions of educational reform. Only then, will true sustainable change and progress begin.

Because NGO's and private schools are such a vital component of the education system in Haiti, it will be necessary to collaborate with these entities in order to ensure a quality education for all. More subsidized tuitions programs will benefit a majority of Haitians, as cost is one of the key obstacles that prevents children from attending school. In the future, the Haitian government should continue to partner with the private schools and research ways in which to monitor and evaluate the education in these schools.
